This was an animal resue that quickly turned into an animal hoarder situation. In January, Duain Preitz had called officials to help with over 100 animals that he had rescued because his rescue organization was under a threat of eviction. Officials had arrived to find a compound full of 215 animals, ranging from dogs, cats, horses, ducks, chickens and a pig. There were also deceased animals on the premises as well. Police ended up arresting Preitz on suspicion of felony animal cruelty.
Volunteers from Bakersfield immediately banned together to help out with the animals and get them into shelters and give them the treatment and care they needed.
The last 36 dogs from the 215 animals taken from Preitz, have arrived at the California Dog and Cat Hospital on South California Street in Stockton, where they will be spayed and neutered.
